Rule of the job1 of 3
A short conversation first
You tell us what is happening with the door, who has keys and what you would like to be different afterwards. We ask a few questions so we arrive with the right parts.

Sound hardware, straight answers.
Much of our work is in older houses, where the doors have settled, the frames are not quite square and the hardware has been changed three or four times over the decades. We like these jobs. They ask for judgement rather than a catalogue number: how to fit a modern deadbolt to a door that was never drilled for one, how to keep a period handle while making the lock behind it dependable. Our technicians carry the shims, fillers and odd-sized parts these houses need, and they take the time to get the alignment right. The result is a door that closes with one hand and locks without a shove, which is what an old house deserves.

Rule of the job2 of 3
We check how the door hangs, how the latch meets the strike and what the cylinder is doing before deciding anything. Then we explain what we found in plain words.
Rule of the job3 of 3
We do the job we agreed, test every key and every position of the lock, tidy up and show you how it works before we leave.

Older houses around here have older doors, and older doors have their own logic. A mortise lock from the 1920s was built to be serviced, not thrown away, and a rim lock on a back porch may simply need cleaning and a new spring.

Step 1 of 5
Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

Step 2 of 5
You tell us what is happening with the door, who has keys and what you would like to be different afterwards. We ask a few questions so we arrive with the right parts.

Step 3 of 5
Ask about the lock, the method, the parts or the reasoning. A good explanation is part of the service, not a favour.

Step 4 of 5
We reach for picks and shims before drills, and we tell you if the lock has left us no gentle option.

Step 5 of 5
Metal filings, drywall dust and old screws all leave with us. The lock is tested from both sides and the key handed over.
