Locksmith in ChurchillOlder homes.
Original locks, still working.

Plenty of houses in Churchill still carry their first mortise locks and brass knobs, and they are worth keeping. We service that hardware so it turns freely again, find matching parts where they exist, and only suggest replacement when a piece genuinely cannot be brought back. Character stays; the door locks. We serve Fennell as well.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 35 in 100 homes · mixed ages
  • About 35% of homes in Innisfil were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.A mix of eras means a mix of bores and backsets. Standard modern sizes on one door, older dimensions on the door across the street. Carrying adapter plates and cylinders in both ranges lets a locksmith fit upgrades cleanly to either.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 90% of homes in Innisfil (2021 Census).Detached houses have their own garages, sheds and gates, and each tends to carry a lock chosen on the day it was needed. A locksmith visiting such a home looks at all of them, not just the front door, and brings the whole property up to one standard.

Business Lockout Service

Illustrative locksmith scene — Churchill
The call
It is ten to nine, three staff are on the sidewalk with their coffees, and the key that has opened the glass front door for six years will not turn. The cylinder feels gritty, the door is locked, and the first customer is already parking.

Lost Keys — Same-Visit Rekey

Two people exchanging a key at an open front door, with a disassembled lock cylinder and small parts arranged on a cloth nearby. — Lost Keys — Same-Visit Rekey, Churchill
The call
You were shovelling the driveway after dark and the ring must have slid out of your coat pocket somewhere under a metre of snow. You have raked the whole bank with a flashlight.

Lock Rekeying

Two detached brass lock cylinders and four house keys on a wooden counter. — Lock Rekeying, Churchill
The call
Every copy of your house key seems to work a little differently. One needs a jiggle, another sticks halfway, and the original wore down years ago.

Lock Replacement & Upgrade

Detached satin-nickel lever hardware, tubular latch and strike plate on a wooden workbench. — Lock Replacement & Upgrade, Churchill
The call
The lever on the side door droops toward the floor and rattles in your hand. The latch no longer springs back on its own, so the door drifts open behind you unless you pull it shut and check it twice.

High Security Locks

ScaleNot to scale

High security cylinders come in rim, mortise, knob, lever and interchangeable-core formats, so almost any existing lock body can be upgraded. The page describes how we assess what you have and choose a cylinder that fits it.

  1. Layer 1The key

    High Security Locks

After the attempted break-in the police officer pointed at your door and said the strike plate was held by two short screws. Nobody got in, but you have looked at that door differently every evening since.

  2. Layer 2The cylinder

    Lock Replacement & Upgrade

The keys the seller handed over came in a sandwich bag: six unlabelled copies for two locks of different makes from different decades. You have no idea how many more copies exist or who is holding them.

  3. Layer 3The bolt and strike

    Deadbolt Installation

The old deadbolt has grown lazy. You turn the thumb-turn and the bolt creeps out halfway, then needs a second push with the door pulled tight.

  4. Layer 4The door and frame

    Break-In Damage Lock Repair

You came home to find the front door standing open. The deadbolt is still thrown, but the strike plate is dangling from one screw and a fist-sized piece of the jamb is lying on the hall floor.

Ask us anything about locks

This is the third time this door has locked someone out. Is something wrong with the hardware?

It can be. A cylinder that is worn, a strike plate that has shifted, or a latch that no longer seats squarely will all produce repeat lockouts even though the key looks fine. The locksmith checks the alignment of the door and frame, tests how smoothly the latch throws, and looks at wear inside the cylinder before simply letting you back in. If the hardware is the cause, fixing that during the same visit is usually quicker than calling again next month.

My lock is the homeowner-rekeyable type but the working key is lost. Can it still be reset?

Yes. Those cylinders let an owner change the key with a small learn tool, but only while a working key is in hand. Without one, a design such as Kwikset SmartKey is removed and placed in its own reset fixture, returning it to a blank state; other cylinder types are rekeyed by their own method instead. A new key is then set and the lock goes back on. It is a few extra minutes rather than a replacement.

How many new keys will I get, and can I get more later?

As many as you ask for, cut on site from the fresh pinning and tested in each door they should open; two or three is typical for a household. More can be cut later. When you do, bring one of the locksmith's originals to be copied rather than a copy of a copy, since every generation strays slightly from the intended depths. If any key is a restricted type, additional copies come from the record kept for that system rather than from a hardware store.

Is there anything different about steel or fibreglass doors?

The lock hardware is the same; the door construction changes the method. Steel and fibreglass doors have a wooden or composite block inside the lock stile, and existing bores are used wherever possible. Where a new deadbolt must be added, the locksmith drills with a jig and bits suited to the skin so the hole is clean and square, and fits an edge plate designed for that door. Insulated doors also move less with humidity, so alignment tends to hold well.
