your place in Glenwood Beach

Moving into a home in Glenwood Beach means somebody else's keys are still out there: a former owner, a tenant, a painter, a cousin who once watered the plants. Rekeying every exterior lock to one fresh key settles the question in a single visit, and the same job suits a rental turning over or a shop changing hands.

Shop rules

Sound hardware, straight answers.

  1. Questions welcomed. Ask about the lock, the method, the parts or the reasoning. A good explanation is part of the service, not a favour.
  2. Nothing forced that could be finessed. We reach for picks and shims before drills, and we tell you if the lock has left us no gentle option.
  3. Swept, wiped and working. Metal filings, drywall dust and old screws all leave with us. The lock is tested from both sides and the key handed over.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Ask us what the visit involves.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 35 in 100 homes · mixed ages
  • About 35% of homes in Innisfil were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Mixed housing stock keeps a locksmith versatile. A morning might be a heritage mortise lock rebuilt and an afternoon a smart lock paired to a phone on a steel door. The same care goes into both, with tools and parts for each.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 90% of homes in Innisfil (2021 Census).Families in houses hand keys to children, cleaners, dog walkers and neighbours. A locksmith can set up a keypad on the side door for the household and keep the front door on a conventional key, so access matches how the family actually comes and goes.

Ask us anything about locks

Will my door be boarded up, or can it be made to lock tonight?

Most forced doors lock again during the visit. If the slab and frame are sound, a new lockset goes in and the strike is reinforced. If the jamb is split, a repair plate or a boxed strike screwed into the stud usually holds it. Boarding is reserved for openings where the frame or the door itself is destroyed, and even then it is fitted so the household can get out from inside without a key.

If the cylinder is replaced, can it be keyed to my existing key?

Often, yes. A replacement cylinder in the same keyway can be pinned to the cuts on the key already on your ring, so the front and back doors stay on one key and nothing else in the house changes. If the old keyway is no longer made or the key is badly worn, the new cylinder comes with fresh keys and the other doors can be rekeyed to match in the same visit.

My lock is the homeowner-rekeyable type but the working key is lost. Can it still be reset?

Yes. Those cylinders let an owner change the key with a small learn tool, but only while a working key is in hand. Without one, a design such as Kwikset SmartKey is removed and placed in its own reset fixture, returning it to a blank state; other cylinder types are rekeyed by their own method instead. A new key is then set and the lock goes back on. It is a few extra minutes rather than a replacement.

How long does servicing a mortise lock take?

A single entry lock that needs cleaning, springs and a strike adjustment is generally done in one visit of an hour or two. Filing a bit key adds bench time, and a set of interior latches is longer simply because there are more of them. A case that needs a part fabricated, or a replacement case that has to be ordered to size, may mean a second visit; the locksmith says so at the assessment.
