Locksmith in Big Bay PointRekey. Repair.
Replace, if it needs it.
Most locks in Big Bay Point do not need replacing. They need new pins, a clean cylinder, or a strike moved a few millimetres so the bolt stops fighting the frame. We start with the least invasive fix, say plainly what we see, and only move up the list when the hardware has truly reached the end of its life. We serve Maplegrove as well.

Smart locks, keypads and fobs are only worth fitting to doors in Big Bay Point that are mechanically sound. So we check alignment and the bore first, install the hardware, then sit with you while codes are set and a phone is paired. Every electronic lock we fit keeps a mechanical key as a backup, and you leave knowing how to use both.

- Questions welcomed. Ask about the lock, the method, the parts or the reasoning. A good explanation is part of the service, not a favour.
- Nothing forced that could be finessed. We reach for picks and shims before drills, and we tell you if the lock has left us no gentle option.
- Swept, wiped and working. Metal filings, drywall dust and old screws all leave with us. The lock is tested from both sides and the key handed over.
- Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Ask us what the visit involves.

How a visit goes
Older houses around here have older doors, and older doors have their own logic. A mortise lock from the 1920s was built to be serviced, not thrown away, and a rim lock on a back porch may simply need cleaning and a new spring.

Step 1 of 5
Call and describe the door
Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

Step 2 of 5
On our way
You tell us what is happening with the door, who has keys and what you would like to be different afterwards. We ask a few questions so we arrive with the right parts.

2021 census: what it means at the door
Every square is one home in a hundred.
- 35 in 100 homes · mixed ages
- 90 in 100 homes · mostly houses
- About 35% of homes in Innisfil were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Older frames and newer frames fail in different ways. Settled wood pulls strikes out of line; new framing settles as it dries. A locksmith used to a mixed area recognises which he is looking at and adjusts accordingly.
- Single-detached houses make up about 90% of homes in Innisfil (2021 Census).A detached house gives a locksmith room to work: full access to both sides of every door, hinges and frames included. Repairs and upgrades can be thorough, from the front deadbolt to the gate latch, with nothing off limits.

Ask us anything about locks
This is the third time this door has locked someone out. Is something wrong with the hardware?
It can be. A cylinder that is worn, a strike plate that has shifted, or a latch that no longer seats squarely will all produce repeat lockouts even though the key looks fine. The locksmith checks the alignment of the door and frame, tests how smoothly the latch throws, and looks at wear inside the cylinder before simply letting you back in. If the hardware is the cause, fixing that during the same visit is usually quicker than calling again next month.
How long does servicing a mortise lock take?
A single entry lock that needs cleaning, springs and a strike adjustment is generally done in one visit of an hour or two. Filing a bit key adds bench time, and a set of interior latches is longer simply because there are more of them. A case that needs a part fabricated, or a replacement case that has to be ordered to size, may mean a second visit; the locksmith says so at the assessment.
The house came with a smart lock. Can you make it mine?
Yes, and it is treated as a fresh installation rather than a hand-me-down. The lock is reset to factory settings using the maker's procedure, which wipes codes, schedules and paired phones, then enrolled to an account you create. Anything else that could open it, such as a hub or a voice assistant, gets its own check, because those permissions sit outside the lock. The override cylinder is rekeyed, batteries replaced and firmware updated. If the hardware is worn, replacing it is the cleaner choice.
How should I look after a gate lock so it keeps working?
Twice a year, work the lubricant the cylinder maker specifies into the keyway and cycle the key a few times; the wrong product for that model can collect grit or gum up the mechanism instead of helping it. Check that the closer still settles the gate into the latch without slamming, and look at hinges or post hardware for movement, especially after a hard winter. A cylinder that starts needing a wiggle, or a gate that has begun to drag, is worth addressing while it is still a small adjustment.
